GUEST LECTURERS
DR NICKOLAS NICKOU: ‘Available But Unused’ and ‘Species Rhododendrons’
Doctor Nickou is an extremley knowledgable plantsman who gardens in southern Connecticut. His specialty is woody plants and his garden features extensive collections of rhododendrons & magnolias. Dr. Nickou has travelled extensively exploring the flora of many countries. Among his recent endeavours is the founding of the Daphne Society.
JOHN WEAGLE: ‘Breeding Stategies’
John, another keen plantsman, gardens in Halifax. John has been hybridizing with rhododendrons, with an emphasis on evergreen azaleas, for nearly two decades.
CAPTAIN R.M. STEELE: ‘Breeding for Yellows’
Dick, to most, needs no introduction. His contributions to the promotion and cultivation of rhododendrons in Atlantic Canada are immeasurable. The results of his decades of hybridizing will be readily apparent in many of the gardens to be toured and particularly at Bayport Plant Farm, the current 40 acre home to his breeding program. Captain Steele received the ARS Gold Medal in 1998.
