Wildflowers – the work of William C. McCalla

January 2, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Program description:

The presentation is about the work of Bob’s grandfather, William C. McCalla, a noted educator, photographer and naturalist in Western Canada. He was a school teacher, but more importantly his passion was collecting and photographing wildflowers. In total, he donated over 15,000 pressed flowers to the University of Alberta Herbarium before his death in 1962. He also photographed thousands of wildflowers, all in black and white, but for some he constructed hand coloured lantern slides of his photos. He kept journals of his collections and photographs. The presentation will highlight the man and his work with examples from his collecting trips of his photographs and pressed flowers.
