ARHS AGM and Rhododendron Tissue Culture Project
This fall, the Atlantic Rhododendron and Horticultural Society approved funding for a collaborative research and development project with VITIS Vines Inc., a Nova Scotia-based plant tissue culture company specializing in advanced propagation. The project aims to establish up to 12 rhododendron cultivars and breeder selections in tissue culture, using plant material contributed by Society members.
Presentation – Andrew Richards, Operations Manager, VITIS Vines Inc.
Andrew will introduce the tissue culture micropropagation process and discuss how this collaboration can help preserve unique rhododendron genetics, overcome conventional propagation challenges, and enable the production of greater quantities of locally developed cultivars for growers and Society members. He will also outline the project’s objectives, anticipated timelines, and potential for future propagation and germplasm safeguarding.
