The Arts and Crafts Garden with Dr. Sarah Rutherford

Monday, October   7,  7:30 -9:00  pm

The Arts and Crafts movement of the late nineteenth and early  twentieth century had significant impact on garden design, both in England and around the world.  Sarah has published a book on Arts and Crafts Gardens with the Shire Library which explains the origin, impact and significance for horticultural  practice and garden design.

Dr. Sarah Rutherford is a Kew-trained horticulturalist and garden historian from Oxford England.  She has published the book “Capability Brown and His  Landscape Gardens”  for  the  National  Trust (2016), and has written other books on garden history including six other titles for the Shire Library. In her work in compiling conservation plans for historic parks and gardens climate change is always a factor.   She recently completed  a study  for Wakehurst Place,  site of the Kew Millenium Seed Bank,  including aspects of impact of climate change on their world-class plant collections.
