DESCRIPTION:“Native Plants at the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens” \nAshlea Viola\, ARHG Horticulturalist\n \nAshlea will review the native plants growing in the ARHG and talk about the ways to increase the number of natives in your garden.\n \nThe talk will be at 7:30 pm at the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History on Summer Street.  We plan to start with a social with gourmet fruit popsicles from Hali Pops at 7:00 pm.  We will also share the presentation on Zoom\, but in order to receive your popsicle\, you must attend in person.\n  \nAfter the questions and discussions of Ashlea’s talk there will be a short presentation by Tom Harvie from the Hortus website (see www. Joinhortus.com) on mapping native plants in our gardens.

DESCRIPTION:“Cultivating Continuity: Honouring the Past\, Enriching the Present\, Growing the Future“\n\n \nAllan Summers \, RLA\, ASLA \, LEED AP\nPrincipal\, RAS Landscape Architects\n\n \n\nHistoric gardens are shaped as much by change as by continuity — raising a central question for their stewards: should a garden be preserved as a frozen moment in time\, or allowed to evolve?\nIn this lecture\, Allan presents a series of projects addressing the rejuvenation of historic gardens — work that honours the past while thoughtfully accommodating the needs of the present and anticipating the future. Rather than treating preservation and adaptation as opposing forces\, these projects demonstrate how respectful\, informed intervention can allow a garden to remain vital: a living landscape rather than a static relic.\n\n\nNemours Mansion and Gardens \n  \n\nAllan has a passion for horticulture and fine art and has over 30 years’ experience providing planning and design services through all phases of landscape architecture from conception through final construction phases. His interests are reflected in a wide variety of projects and his work in public and botanical gardens\, residential estate design\, hospital healing gardens\, and restoration of historic landscapes enjoys national recognition. SUMMARY:ARHS Steele Lecture by Lisa Roper\, Chanticleer Gardens
DESCRIPTION: \n\n“Capturing Chanticleer\, Photographing the Garden” \nLisa Roper\, Chanticleer Gardens \n  \nLighting is a key factor in creating a successful image. In this presentation\, we look at the effects of different types of light and what mood they create. Lisa’s goal is to capture the constantly evolving garden\, seeking new perspectives\, ways to frame a view\, and light that is transformative. Using Chanticleer Garden as a backdrop\, elements of design such as composition\, symmetry and vantage point will be covered. Lisa will also discuss the technique of using photography to inform design decisions in the Gravel Garden\, one of the handful of gardens she develops.   \nLisa Roper is the Gravel Garden and Ruin horticulturist at Chanticleer\, a public garden in Wayne Pa. where she has gardened for the past 36 years in various parts of the garden. Lisa also photographs Chanticleer Garden weekly for the Chanticleer website. \nLisa has a BFA in fine art from The Cooper Union in NYC where she studied fine art and photography. She is a graduate of the Longwood Gardens Professional Gardener Training Program. Lisa has been a guest gardener at Stellenbosch University Garden in South Africa and Great Dixter in East Sussex\, UK. She is also a contributor to The Art of Gardening\, design inspiration and planting techniques from Chanticleer. \n  \n“
